  HeMateMe: A nasty move at the end. Are these games in 'Joburg by any chance a FIDE elimination match of some sort? In '81 Korchnoi had lost badly to Karpov. This seems too early to be part of the cycle to challange Karpov, in 1984.

Perhaps this was a well financed exhibition match, sponsored by South Africa? I thought at this time in history chess professionals were barred from playing in apartheid South Africa. Spain's Miguel Quinterros was given a ban, 2 years I think, for playing a match or tournament in south Africa, in the early 80s.
