 | | THE pawn: with bondarevsky, there is no...boundaries... |
| Dec-26-05 | | ReikiMaster: Kotov became Grandmaster 14 years after this game. Even so, I think he played to the end simply because he appreciated the ending's artistic value. |
| Dec-26-05 | | chesscrazy: <The17thpawn> There is nothing wrong with your first 23...Ng3. This is a beautiful game, love that mate. |
| Dec-26-05 | | szunzein: bondarewsky was very talented and even dreamt of becoming world champion; he couldn't but he became spassky's trainer |
| Dec-26-05 | | syracrophy: This game was played instructively by Bondarevsky, that always had attacking ideas in mind!!! I just wanna make notice of some points of this game: -9.Ne1? its a mistake cause it removes an importamt defender of the king. Better was 9.Qc2 -10.Nd3? its a mistake cause it takes the knight to the edge, where it has no good activity, and the king has no defender on h2 -16.f3? was a mistake because it unprotects the g3 pawn. Much better was 16.Be3 -17.h3 was much better than 17.h4?!
-23.Ke3? was the decisive mistake, because it moved into mate. 23.Kf1! was the correct move, now 23...Ng3+ 24.Kf2 Qxd4+ 25.e3 Qh4 26.Nxd7 Bxd7 27.f4! leads to a solid position. In conclusion I must say that this instructive game, was full of errors and failure moves by Kotov, that played with no ideas in mind on this game. If he could at least have seen the move 23.Kf1! he could have saved the game |

 | | Sneaky: "All The King's Horses", they had to use that pun sooner or later, and I can't think of a better game to deserve it. Incidentally, "All The King's Horses" is also the name of a riveting short story by Kurt Vonnegut, the premise being that a captured US Colonel is forced to play a game of chess with living people for pieces, which are executed upon capture. |

| Dec-26-05 | | ricardolopez: One of the most impressive games Dutch has produced is "The Polish Inmortal", Glucksberg vs Najdorf , Glucksberg vs Najdorf, 1929 |

 | | dakgootje: one of the nicer games ive seen so far, with a beautifull mate. |

 | | EmperorAtahualpa: Kotov might have made some bad moves in the game, but we should not forget to credit Bondarevsky's wonderful attacking performance! Excellent GOTD and a wonderful pun. |
| Dec-26-05 | | lopium: Ahahahzz!! Is that human? |
Dec-26-05
 | | kevin86: A quaint game where three minor pieces mate the king in the center of the board-while white's pieces are left as non-involved bystanders. |
Dec-26-05
 | | McCool: Amazing Game! Igor must have seen that checkmate since 23.Ke3 . Superb knight movement. |
Dec-26-05
 | | TTLump: very nice mating combination.
as <syracrophy> points out, Kotov could have done better at several points in the game but he wasn't in real trouble until 18.hxg5??. Much better would have been 18.Bxg5 ... and white comes through the ensuing exchanges with a solid positional advantage, and Black's attack is completely dissipated, ie: 18.Bxg5 Nxf1, 19.Nf4 Qe8, 20.Bxh6 Ne3, 21.Qc3 Nxg2, 22.Kxg2 Nxe5, 23.dxe5 Bf6, 24.Bxf8 Qxf8, 25.Rg1 |

 | | refutor: this game has attention...refer to "art of attack" |

 | | Gypsy: According to Kotov/Yudovich, this game was played in 1936 All-Soviet Tournament of Young Chessplaers; it was a tournament of players of 1st-category and the game decided the 1st place race between Kotov and Bondarevsky. Bodarevsky received his (national) master title in 1937, GM in 1940. Kotov received his master title in 1938, GM in 1939. |

 | | Themofro: Beatiful game. |
| Jul-14-09 | | True2theGame: The funny thing is I saw the Queen sac almost instantly in the book of chess problems I was reading, However the preceding Rook sac and complicated maneuvering of the pieces to get the position at move ...25 clearly is beyond my tactical abilities. Great Stuff!!! |
| Dec-16-10 | | kbob: re sneaky's comment on the short story by Kurt Vonnegut. The colonel plays the white king. His knights are his sons, and the white queen is his wife. But I think the story makes an hilarious chess gaffe. The opening moves are given: 1.e4,d5 2.d3,dxe4 (thus killing a human white pawn) 3.dxe4 .... No further moves are given in the story. But look at the position. White has just offered a WIFE trade on move three!!! |
| Apr-24-12 | | CharlyNY: 23.Ke3 was a big mistake. 23.Kf1 and there is nothing than draw... |
| Jun-30-12 | | vinidivici: White king is Nixon.
2 blacks knights are Berstein and Woodward. Good pun. |
Jun-30-12
 | | chancho: A game anyone would be proud of playing. |
