Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-03-04  Jesuitic Calvinist: Boleslavsky is perhaps a little forgotten nowadays, but he was one of the great attacking players, particularly as white against the Sicilian.

If you look at enough of his games, you get a sense of inevitability in the sort of positions he was at home in, and his opponents must have felt it as well.

11.Qe1 is a typical Boly manouvre, and you just know that moves like 17.e5 and 18.e5 are coming.

plang: The e5 sacrifice is considered to be thematic in the Scheveningen today. I remember several games where Tal used it. This must have been one of the first examples of it. Kotov should have taken the pawn and hoped for the best. 17..Ne8 is fairly weak and leads to a hellacious attack.

Ulhumbrus: One point of 22 Nd5 is that on 22...Nxd5 the recapture 23 Bxd5+ removes with check the N on d5 which defends the bishop on e7. This seems a useful resource to know about.
Dec-26-07  mistreaver: What if 32 ... Bb5? Seems to me like it could offer some practical chances of survival?

Phony Benoni: After 32...Bb5 33.Qb8+ looks like a mate to me.
