woldsmandriffield: In the middle game 24..Rd8 was an passive and odd looking move while the plan of 26..b4 and 27..Rb8 just gave a pawn away since 28 b5! would be horrific for Black.

In the ending, the players seem to have confused move order: 38..Rxd5 was better since 39 Kg3 is easily met by 39..Kf7. But the game went 38..Kd7? 39 h5? (39 Rg3 Rxd5 40 Rxg7+ Kc6 41 Rg4 Rd2 42 h5 wins easily) 39..Rxd5 40 Rg3 and now instead of 40..Rd2, Kotov had the resource 40..e4+! 41 Kxe4 Rxh4 42 Rxg7+ Kc6 =.

Aronin then established a won position.
