Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-21-09  JohnBoy: This ought to be on Rachels' short list.
Jan-22-15  chapablanca: A good game to study for both attacking and defensive ideas. White could have defended with 23. Nf3, with the idea of 23...Rh3 24. Ng5 Bxg5 25. fxg5, and the bishop can come to f4 to help defend. The g-file is also blocked and the black pawns on the e- and f-files are exposed. Stiockfish evaluates the position as completely equal. Also, 26. Be1 was a better try than 26. Qe1, although Black's initiative is still remarkably persistent.
Jul-25-15  ToTheDeath: A nice game by then FM Rachels against a much higher rated opponent. White's concept with a4 and Ra2 was slow and dubious but it took some accurate attacking play by Rachels to prove it.
Nov-09-16  BwanaVa: This really ought to be on Rachels' short list. It is silly that it has been omitted.

Stockfish 16.1 says mate in 9:

27. ..Rxh2+

(27. .. Rxh2+ (1. ... Rxh2+ 2.Rxh2 Qe4+ 3.Kg1 Qxe3+ 4.Rhf2 gxf2+ 5.Rxf2 Qc1+ 6.Rf1 Bd4+ 7.Kg2 Rg8+ 8.Kh2 Qc2+ 9.Kh1 Rh8+) +M9/104 36)

May-01-24  TheaN: <27....Rxh2+ 28.Rxh2 Qe4+ -+> was kind of obvious and it plays itself from there.

perfidious: A false trail is the alternative 28....g2+ 29.Kg1 exf1/Q+, which is not as forcing due to the lethal threats against Black's own king.
