Black's position isn't desperate now, not at all. Pawn sac 20. ..e3 is possible here.
Rakic chose to play 20. ..Qd7, forcing himself to exchange his strong bishop in g7 to BN:
21.Nf6+ Bxf6 22.Bxf6 - and now white controls the important diagonal a1-h8. WQ has an eye on h6.

22. ..e3 just prolongs the inevitable.
The more I go through these games the better I fall into conclusion that there's much more in chess than just the openings.
