Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-27-07  brazos: Why does White go Qc1 instead of forcing mate with Qg4 (or Qg5) instead he lets black resign? Did he miss the win or was Mieses being Gentlemanly, making the Qc1 move; showing the forced win (it's still forced even after Qc1) and letting black resign?
Feb-27-07  brazos: Nevermind, I forgot that the rook had moved. It appears that Mieses is up a clear piece so Black resigned. I don't see a forced mate. An interesting ending.
Feb-27-07  alspookyd: I believe Qg4 is results in mate...

27.Qg4+, Kf8 28.Qg7+, Ke8 29.Qg8+ Kd7 30.Qxf7+ Kd6 31 Qe7+ Ke5 32 Qe5++

I may be wrong, but that seems like the most direct forced mate.

Feb-27-07  brazos: You're right! You can interject 31. Be7#
but it does win by force. Looks like my first question has some merit after all. Thanks for looking further.
Feb-28-07  syracrophy: 27.♕c1?? Am I missing something?
Feb-28-07  TrueFiendish: It would seem that 27.Qh6 also does the trick.
