This game was played in the US Championship. For a short time Miles was active in US chess.

Rohde's highly unorthodox piece set-up
with 11 Nh4, 12 Nc4 and 13 Bf4 was soundly punished by Miles 13..Ne4. Rohde was only able to maintain material equality by making several gigantic positional characteristics after which his king had no chance of surviving the middle game.
