Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-19-04   rochade18: This is a very strange endgame: Black has good chances to get a remis because his pawn is on the second rank. How can white win?
Jul-19-04   Cyphelium: <rochade18> Actually black only has chances to draw if white doesn't know what he is doing. Easy is of course 61.- Kc1? 62. Ke3 Kd1 63. Qb3 Kc1 when 64. Kd3 leads to mate.

Slightly more tricky is 61.- Ka1 but white wins after 62. Qc7 Kb1 63. Ke4 c1Q 64. Qxc1+ Kxc1 65. Kd5 Kc2 (65.- Kb2 transposes) 66. Kc4! (only move to win, 66. Kc5?? Kc3 67. Kb5 Kd4 68. Kxa5 Kc5 is a draw)66.- Kb3 67. Kb5 Kc3 68. Kxa5 Kc4 69. Kb6 and the a-pawn queens.
