Aug-03-05  Knight13: Nice game. Seriously. Good play by both players. Keeping the pawns on the light squares in the endgame is good play. The Bishop can't touch them!
Feb-02-08  Jesspatrick: This is an excellent game. When I first saw White's 14.♕xc3 I dismissed it as inferior.

In hindsight, it's clear that White's pair of B's and greater mobility were enough compensations for the doubled c pawns. The game was equal with chances for both players.

Feb-02-08  Zygote: the battle of the family :)) I never knew that Lasker had a brother...
Feb-02-08  Resignation Trap: <Zygote> Emanuel Lasker had a brother, but it wasn't Edward, it was Berthold Lasker .

MissScarlett: These puns are hard work for everyone.
May-26-19  john barleycorn: I think puns are an exhibition of how much "humanistic" education a guy got or not. Playing more or less intelligently with words. Unfortunately, many are not aware about the "NOT" part. <sargon>, try harder.

OhioChessFan: <MrMelad> you could have a couple thousand games in that collection. The painfully obvious ones are generally what I think of as bad. This one is interesting, at least, and either really bad or really good. Or both.

thegoodanarchist: Perhaps there was an announcement by chessgames?

I didn't see the announcement. But I can guess it:

ATTENTION CG.COM USERS! ATTENTION!

All Game of The Day Puns MUST NOW BE ABOUT STAR WARS!!

May-26-19  Ratt Boy: Nice pun, butt I had to look it up.
I gave up on Star Wars after the second one. So that's my excuse. (I'll have a better shot at a Trek or Bab 5 pun.)
May-26-19  Swedish Logician: What is STAR WARS?

  Sargon: John Barleycorn, Must I?
May-26-19  MrMelad: <OhioChessFan> Yes, I guess you can add many more games to the collection. I was trying to joke about how bad I thought the pun was, like it deserved a whole game collection on it's own merit. Also the thought that people will click my collection with the anticipation of finding many more bad puns but will find only this one made me laugh. :)

Sorry <Sargon> :)

I think a good pun is one that has more to do with the actual game than playful words about players names. I consider this one the best pun I ever encountered:

E Z Adams vs Carlos Torre, 1920

Well you obviously must have missed <this> one:

Fischer vs J Gloger, 1964

;-)

May-26-19  Granny O Doul: A good pun also doesn't add, subtract, or alter more than one phoneme.

Breunor: I thought it was good to have a good pun, attached here to a very good game also! Lasker (Emmanuel) always did just enough to win.

jith1207: All those who argue that GOTD pun should be more about a game rather than just on player names :

Did you notice how the comments section is more about the pun and not the actual game?

Well, except when the GOTD is poor, we would all hear about how the game should be of high quality.

Maybe, the puns are just the reflection of the popular opinion and the general quality of comments?
