Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-10-04  ughaibu: This is quite a funny trap, pyschologically astute one might say.
Mar-10-04  seoulmama: A beautiful game, fascinating in all phases. A controlled masterpiece which reaches its climax in a highly technical ending.
Mar-10-04  drukenknight: yes it's probably a little difficult for players under 2500 or so to see that the R/P endgame will definitely win for black.
Mar-10-04  michlo: Sorry, if I seem stupid but I actually don't see the endgame or the beautiful phases. Is there any explanation for this or am I the only shortsighted person here?
Mar-10-04  ughaibu: They're joking, black wins the bishop.
Mar-10-04  drukenknight: its quite hideous actually w/ the main line running something like:

9. Bxg5 hxg5
10. f4 gxf4
11. Nh3 Nc6
12. Ng5 Nge7
13. Qxf4 Ng6
14. Qf2 Bh6
15. Qd2 Nxd4
16. Qxd4 Bxg5+
17. Kb1 Bf4
18. g3 Bxe5
19. Qe3 d4
20. Qe4 c6

Mar-10-04  TrueFiendish: michlo: after 9.Bg3 h5 10.Qe2 (10.Qxg5 Bh6) h4. wins the bishop.

Wyatt Gwyon: I guess if a master of the caliber of Padevsky can fall for a trap like this there is hope for me yet.

Robed.Bishop: The score of this game must have changed since 2004 because it won't take a 2500 player to see that 39...Rb8 spells the end for white.

Phony Benoni: <Robed.Bishop> There were once two copies of this game in the database, one ending with 8...g5. See http://www.chessgames.com/perl/dupe....

The kibitzing from the 8-move version was apparently merged into the game on this page with the full score. <Resignation Trap>'s kibitz was written before the merger; note how it refers to this page.
