  Honza Cervenka: 31...Rxh2! was a surprising shot for Smyslov. He should have taken the Bishop with continuation 32.gxf4 Rg2 33.fxe5 fxe5 (threatening 34...Rbg8 and 35...R8g3#) 33.Bxf7! (this pretty defence Smyslov did not notice over the board) 33...Kxf7 34.Rc4 Rbg8 35.Rc4 with an interesting 4 Rooks endgame which is probably balanced. 32.Rc3?? was a losing mistake caused by panic.

  perfidious: Theory subsequently improved on Smyslov's play with 9.g4, the point being that after 9....exf4, White interpolates 10.g5 before recapturing, with an excellent position. For this reason, 7....Be6 fell out of favour and was supplanted by 7....Be7, which became all the rage.
