  tpstar: Could someone explain why White felt compelled to give up the exchange with 27. Rcxe4 versus 27. Bxd6 instead? After 27. Bxd6 Rxd6 28. Qc2 Red8 (28 ... Nd2?! 29. Rxe8+ Kf7 30. Re3) 29. Re2 Nd2 30. Rc3 White should be OK. What's the winning line?
Aug-14-04  samvega: something like 27.Bxd6 Rxd6 28.Qc2 Rd2+ 29.Nxd2 Nxd2+ etc

  tpstar: Thank you very much, but I still don't get the "etc" part at all. After the discovered check White plays 30. Kh3, and now 30 ... Nxc4? 31. Rxe8+ Kf7 32. Qxc4+ Kxe8 33. Qg8+ Kd7 34. Qxg7+ Kc6 35. Qxb7+ wins, or 30 ... Rxe1 31. Qxd2 and now 31 ... Qxb3? loses to 32. Qxe1 Qxc4 33. Qe8++, or 31 ... Qe7 32. Qd5+ wins the Pc5. So I don't see any winning line here.
Aug-15-04  suenteus po 147: This is a sad game since white could have escaped with a draw. 72. Rxg3 hxg3 73. Kxg3 draws easily, but there is also 72. Rxg3 Bc7+ 73. Kg4 Bxg3 74. Kf3 Kd4 75. Kg2 Ke3 76. Kh1 Kf3 77. Kg1 Be1 78. Kh1 Kg3 79. Kg1 Kxh3 80. Kh1 Kg3 81. Kg1 h3 82. Kh1 and there's no way to force the white king out of the corner.
Aug-15-04  clocked: <suenteus po 147>73.anything and black plays hxg3 with an easy win
Aug-16-04  suenteus po 147: <clocked> You're absolutely right. I missed it.
Aug-17-04  samvega: <tpstar> looks like I just didn't consider 30.h3 when I wrote "etc". I don't suppose 29..Nd6+ instead works either.
