Nov-14-03  Dick Brain: How about 12. Kd2?
Nov-14-03  fatbaldguy: 12. Kd2 may work - at first I thought it fails to 12 ... N:d5, since it seemed white would lose a piece after 13 B (anywhere) and 13 ... Q:e2. But maybe 13 a3 would solve the problem since 13 ... B:c3 14 N:c3 N:e3 (or 14 ... Q:e3 15 Q:e3 N:e3 16 Re1) would be met by 15 Re1. Whatever the drawbacks of 12 Kd2, it was better than 12 Kf2...

  perfidious: Submitted this game under the pun Rohde To Perdition, though surely <azaris> should also receive credit, as when I came to this page, I noticed he had already got there.
Jul-13-16  SeanAzarin: Rohde hasn't had much luck in GOTDs.

Here's one I got selected as GOTD under "Rohde to Ruin."

Rohde vs DeFirmian, 1985

Jul-13-16  SeanAzarin: Although, to be fair, Rohde did win *this* GOTD:

DeFirmian vs Rohde, 1987

  al wazir: Down a piece for two ♙s, I would have played on a few more moves.

Count the pawns again.

Jul-13-16  john barleycorn: < Abdel Irada: ∞

...

Count the pawns again.

Good to have a *decent mathematician* in the house.

Jul-13-16  morfishine: Rohde rhymes with road, which once again leaves us begging the question: "What's the pun?"

Jul-13-16  JohnBoy: And he won

Rohde vs Zsuzsa Polgar, 1992

- quite brilliantly say I.

  perfidious: Brasket annotated this game for <Chess Life and Review>, though I do not recall which issue, in 1978.

<JohnBoy> Rohde-Polgar was a lovely attacking game, and one of several GOTDs in which I played both opponents during my career.

Jul-13-16  kevin86: White has lost a piece and has a bad position, so he struck his colors.

  perfidious: <morf> Rohde is indeed pronounced thus, therefore it was but a short trip down the road to perdition for him in this game.

Was vastly amused to look up this game and come upon the game collection which featured the same pun.

Jul-17-16  Abdel Irada: ∞

<morfishine: Rohde rhymes with road>

As pronounced in English, I'd say it's not so much a rhyme as a homonym. But its origin is Germanic, where it is probably pronounced with two syllables.

<begging the question>

This phrase has a specific meaning, which is not the one you appear to intend here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beggi....
