WannaBe: <chessgames.com> Err... To capture your opponents' King? Of course Euwe might have some retort to that. 8-)
May-10-05   Ezzy: <Chessgames.com> It is Pawns on the seventh that decide the game!! Give the lad a coconut!!
May-10-05   Stonewaller2: <The beginner> After 26. Rxg7 h5 27. Rxg6, rather than your 27. Bh6, would seem to renew the mate threat.

benveniste: I suppose it's dull, boring, and against the week's theme, but I found 26. Bf4. Ho hum.

May-10-05   Chessgamess: omigosh! i left the pie in the oven!!!
May-10-05   aginis: <mymt> 26.Rxg7 Qxg7 27.Bh6?? Qxd7
May-10-05   soberknight: <aginis> I may not be drunk, but I have beaten you at chess!
May-10-05   xxdsdxx: This was an easy Tuesday. The first and only move considered...26. Rxg7. ...Kxg7... Skewer Queen with Bh6+
26...Qxg7... Qxd8+ Swap Queens and promote the pawn.
26...h5 the bishop dies for naught with 27. Qe7... There is no pretty way out of this.

May-10-05   Backward Development: 26.Bh6?? Bxh6 27.Qxh6?? Qxh6 28.Re8 Qf8! < >
May-10-05   mymt: Thanks aginis I was wondering why no one liked my idea.Completely missed the pawn capture that now seems so obvious its embarassing. But thats how you learn.
May-10-05   fgh: Half second. To easy.
May-10-05   aginis: <soberknight> you have?
May-10-05   aginis: <Ezzy>
I think 16...f5 was a desperation move black is faced with the powerful threat of e5 and a locked position by playing f5 black forces the weakening of the e pawn so that it later falls he simply isn't fast enough to stop the d pawn. I believe the essential mistake is 9...Nc6. The openning explorer seems to indicate 9...Qa5 is strong, as well as a few other options.

Also, 10...Bxc3+ 11.Bd2 Bxd2+ 12.Qxd2 Na5 offers black some chances.

12...e6 has no value to black if he isn't willing to break the center with 13...Bc7 14.dxe6 fxe6 or 13...exd5 14.fxe5 Qh4+ 15.K- Qxe4 that gets 3 pawns for the bishop and opens the white king, but leaves black with weak kingside dark squares.

iron maiden: <"theme of the week"> Back rank threats created by pawns on the seventh?
May-10-05   tjshann: Not very tough. A decisive blow. Two days in a row of instant resignation by black.
May-10-05   mahmoudkubba: I though that if Rxg7 then black kxg7 shouldnt make it bad for black after all Does it??
May-10-05   mahmoudkubba: of course if the main point was to take the elephant (bishop) in the game as Ewu mentioned in his quotes today then it is a good game, like a game I played ages a go in the seventies of the last century when the main points for two games in a game of 10 points was to take the same for both light and dark bishops!!

Richard Taylor: The theme must be froceful exchanges to enable pawn promotion - and transposing into a winning endgame. Or by using the advanced pawn's threat - being on the sixth or seventh rank - to force a won end game...

"Passed pawns must be pushed - the mail must get through" lol something like that...

May-10-05   soberknight: <aginis> Click on my name to the left of my comment and you will see. Or if you already know who I am, it happened on a Friday night, when you played the Advance Variation of the Caro-Kann and lost an ending of same-colored bishops.
May-11-05   aginis: thhhhbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbppppppp
May-11-05   catfriend: <aginis> I almost agree. However, I'd like to hear a bit more about your reasons. Are you sure what you're implying is always correct? No counterexamples? No uncertainties?
May-12-05   aginis: sorry cat could you be a little more explicit about your questions. I used the openning explorer for most of my analysis. I think the position after 9.Be2 is pretty standard/equal but by 14.d6 the position is desperate.
May-13-05   catfriend: LOL my post referred to the <thhhhbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbppppppp> kibitz of yours:)
