Sep-08-07  dasp3edd3m0n: There's no kibitzing for this page?! Are you freaking kidding me?!
Sep-08-07  Monkey King: Nice game by Gufeld, very poor game by Smyslov. The end was fairly nice though.
Mar-14-08  whiteshark: Smyslov could have equalized with <27...Rf8! 28.Nxc6 Rd6 29.Nxa7 Ng4 30.Nb5 Rdd8>

but he missed it.

GrahamClayton: The power of three connected passed pawns!
Jul-11-10  Jitanjafora: In the magazine "Ajedrez de Estilo" # 117 (Feb. 1989) Gufeld wrote that this game was played at Riga, not Erevan. (Team Tornament, last round)

GrahamClayton: I like Gufeld's comment about the final position:

"The Space Invaders are about to land".

Jun-03-18  Ironmanth: Insanely ballsy play by GM Gufeld; love this game! Thanks, CG!
Jun-03-18  The Kings Domain: Good game, nice pawn march.
Jun-03-18  morfishine: "Gufeld's Immortal" 2nd edition
Jun-03-18  thegoodanarchist: This pun is in reference to the song "Tom Sawyer", by Rush:

Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets by on you
And the space he invades
He gets by on you

Jun-03-18  areknames: Look at them march. What a game.
Jun-03-18  morfishine: Thanks <thegoodanarchist> I was totally clueless on this one!

xenophon: surely the 'pun' is from the game. those pawns just keep advancing like the Space Invader saucers from the game.
Jun-03-18  pawnpro: that was one of the best game i seen
Jun-03-18  Everett: Yes, the pun is very likely from the game, as the aliens march all the way into your position.

And Gufeld literally used the analogy, it seems.
