Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-31-14  jerseybob: Fine game by Sakharov, who pounced on Stein's 15..Na6? with 16.e5!, and fine comeback by Stein, who overcame this first-round setback to win the tourney.
Jan-31-14  parisattack: 13.... b5 playable?
Jan-31-14  Conrad93: What are you intending with 13...b5!?, parisattack?
Feb-01-14  parisattack: I don't think white can take it right away. I was thinking something like:

14. e5, de; 15. Ndb5, ef; 16. Bf4, Ne4 black seems better than in the game?

Feb-01-14  jerseybob: parisattack: Check out R. Byrne-Stein, Sarajevo 1967 in this database, in which white takes the pawn after 13..b5 and wins. Best on move 13 for black might be 13..Na5. And now I realize my post of 1/31 criticizing 15..Na6 was incorrect and that 13..Nb4 was the first blunder.
Feb-01-14  parisattack: Hi <jerseybob> Thanks much for the pointer to that game! Black looks really good to me around move 20 tho. I'll dig a bit deeper.
Feb-15-14  Conrad93: parisattack, white can take the pawn.

If 14. Ndxb5 Nxe4 15. Nxe4 Qxb5 16. c3, and white's position seems perfectly fine, or am I missing something?

Feb-15-14  Conrad93: Oh, I see. Black gets two extra pawns on the kingside!

Still it doesn't seem like it does much, because most of the pawns are fakers, and white has enough pawns on both side to defend against a passer.
