May-28-13 | | Nick46: <woody b: shame on me!
didn't see Qh7 :-(>
Shame on hordes of us. Grabbing that pawn on h5 "for nothing" was just too tempting to resist. |
|
May-28-13 | | James D Flynn: White has 2 united passed pawns for the exchange so material is fairly equal but his K is secure behind its pawn cover whereas the Black K is exposed to attack by White’s Q, B, and N.

May-28-13 | | moodini: It took me a while to get because I wanted to check on h5 in the line where the check on h7 is much better, and I wanted to check on h7 in the line where the check on h5 is better. I've noticed this quite often, I tend to overlook diagonal queen checks because they don't look as powerful somehow. I prefer using my queen as a rook rather than as a bishop! I don't seem to be alone here either. |

May-28-13 | | jrpg: Disappointed to have missed 30.Qh7 but I think there is a forced mate after 30.Qxh5+
30..Ke4 31.Qg4+ Kd3 32.Rd1+ Kc2 33.Qd4 and if 33 ..Re2 34.Qd3+ Kb2 35.Qxe2+ Ka3 36.Bf4 followed by 37.Bc1# |

May-28-13 | | zb2cr: To <Bartimeus>: Pardon me for answering in <gawain>'s place, but after 29. Qxh6+, Kf7; 30. Qxh5+, Kg8; 31. Qg6+, Kh8; 32. Qg7#. |
|
May-28-13 | | Bartimaeus: <zb2cr> The line you've posted is the line A) in my post above. What i meant was in the case : 29. Qxh6+ Kxf5 30. Qxh5+ and in this scenario the best line seems to be a mate in 5. 29. Qxh6+ Kxf5 30. Qxh5+ Ke4 31. Qg4+ Kd3 32. Rd1+ Kc2 33. Bxe5 fxe5 34. Qe2+ Kc3 35. Qd2# Apologies for the confusion but i was curious if there was a better line in this case but there doesn't seem to be. |

May-28-13 | | Abdel Irada: <I prefer using my queen as a rook rather than as a bishop!> I prefer using mine as an Assassin (a piece in Warlord that can move one or two squares in any direction or combination of directions) turbocharged with long linear capabilities. Unfortunately, my opponents' protests are upheld with dismal regularity by benighted tournament directors who don't see the advantages offered by blending game rules at will. ∞ |

 | | gawain: The mate in four after 30 Qxh5+ (which I would never have seen without a computer's help) goes like this. It's pretty and a bit surprising. 30 Qxh5+ Ke4 (forced)
31 Qe2+(!) Kd4 (not ...Kf5 32 Qg4#)
32 Bxe5+ (!) fxe5 (or Kc5)
33 Qe3#

 | | LIFE Master AJ: 29.QxP/h6+ is an obvious win. (Too easy, but then again, it is only Tuesday.) |

 | | LIFE Master AJ: Taimanov played very well. Meanwhile Black made quite a few bad moves, 21...Nh5?!; and 24...Re5?; (maybe - '??') really stand out. |

May-28-13 | | mccarthpm: User: LIFE Master AJ totally agree |
|
May-28-13 | | Bartimaeus: <gawain> Thanks. That is indeed a nice mate line. Not easy to spot but sweet. |
|
May-28-13 | | kevin86: I see that all roads- (almost) lead to mate. |
|
May-28-13 | | newton296: I was thinking 30) Qxh5+ and white has to win. what is wrong ? |
|
May-28-13 | | M.Hassan: <gawain>:
Excellent analysis. I followed that line but did not get results and I now see your ingeneous move of 32.Bxe5+ which does the job and I would not had seen it no matter (unfortunately) |
|
May-28-13 | | M.Hassan: <Boerlboel Guy>:
Thaanks. This line is short, but although <gawain>'s line is longer, it is very very interesting and instructive. Well worthed to go through it |
|
May-28-13 | | BOSTER: Everybody who plays <Indian> prefer to keep his bishop on g7 as a main defender for his camp, and if diagonal a1-h8 open, this bishop is very often much stronger than rook a1.
I play long, long line 29.Qxh6+ Kxf5 30.Qh5+ Ke4 31.Qg4+ Kd3 32.Bxe5 and here I said this is enough for black king. <gawain> 30.Qxh5+ Ke4 31.Qe2+ Kd4 32.Bxe5+ and 33.Qe3#>.
I like your mate in 4, this is very artistic.
When <sfm> belives that <chess so limited in itself>, this ex. shows that "the possibilities in chess are truly astronomical". |
|
May-28-13 | | Patriot: There are quite a few forcing moves for white, but 29.Qxh6+ looks the most restrictive: 29...Kf7 30.Qxh6+ Kg8 31.Qg6+ and mate next.
29...Kxf5 30.Qh7+ Kg5 31.f4#
The second line gave me the most trouble since first I considered 30.Qxh5+ which must be winning as well. |
