LTJ

Nov-11-12  gars: Hello, <LTJ> ! Is this the game about which P.H.Clarke wrote " ... in one game he sacrificed so wildly that even he did not have enough material left at the end" ? I found this quote on page 78 of Clarke's excellent "Mikhail Tal's Best Games of Chess, G. Bell & Sons, 1973.

Sally Simpson: Yes! (sorry for not replying sooner.)

I have the 1961 first edition of this excellent book. That note drove me crazy.

I had in my hands a wonderful book full of the young Tal's games ending with him winning the world title in 1960 and this is the one game I wanted to see.

Since then I've always moaned if an author mentions a game in 'you must see this' terms and never shows it.

Of course I forgive P.H.C. because IMO no one (not even Tal himself) captures the magic of these early games the way Peter does. But the bare score at the end of the book would sufficed. This was one of the first games I sought out when DB's starting appearing. A quest finally fulfilled.
