Kibitzer's Corner
May-03-05  woodenbishop: Wow!! This is probably one of the very best games Benko ever played... though never again would he have the rare pleasure of defeating the magic man of chess.
May-04-05  whatthefat: A nice game by Benko. Keep in mind though that Tal was to withdraw from this candidates tournament early with kidney problems, which surely explains his rather flat play.

Benko was however also to score a win over Fischer in this tournament Benko vs Fischer, 1962 and using the same opening 1. g3 which is today known as Benko's Opening. Along with having Benko's Gambit named after himself, he can feel pretty proud!

Jun-29-05  Knight13: <This is probably one of the very best games Benko ever played...> I agree. Benko played well.
Jun-29-05  aw1988: Wow. This is a hellofagame.
Oct-05-09  parisattack: This masterpiece is analyzed in detail in Pal Benko: My Life, Games and Compositions, game #44.
