spock jenkins: this is a pleasing endgame from tal. look how he activates his king, and how he just lets the white g-pawn pass, using the tempi to push his streamroller forward...
May-03-10  sicilianhugefun: Talking about family check! this is a good example. Instructive conversion of an expanding passed pawn with great opposition of the same nature. It requires first-class grandmaster calculation which was never strange to have seen from Tal the Magician
Mar-30-11  mjk: Lucena position, more or less.

Wyatt Gwyon: Looks like Tal actually misplayed the rook ending a bit. 47...Kc3 gives white some drawing chances. Better was probably Rf3

Robed.Bishop: 47...Rf3? What am I missing? That's not possible on my board, and I'm not smart enough to see the move you meant.

I'm sure it's probably a typo, Wyatt, but could you please clarify your move?

Wyatt Gwyon: lol. Sorry about that. Was in a hurry this morning when i wrote that. Meant that the Rook needs to get to f3, via a3. 47...Kc3 is probably a second-best plan. 47. Kc4 is probably a lot better.
