Apr-16-05  DigitalLove: I just love 24. Nd5!! .. not just made to threat 25. Ne7++.. but i think guarding the e3 square.. for 24... Qe3+; 25. Kb1 Qg3; finishes the attack. and Black is a rook ahead.

RookFile: Well i was really surprised by how
Tal handled the opening.... he allowed
both his bishops to be captured by
knights..... he must have known
what he was doing, obviously
Apr-17-05  WorldChampeen: Tal stood up against bigotry
May-02-05  woodenbishop: BRILLIANT!!

Averageguy: 9...Nd7 seems to be an interesting sideline worthy of occassional and suprise use. Here however, black spent too much time eliminating both whites bishops while Tal advanced with his attack.

RookFile: What Black did was reasonable, but 16... e6 seems incorrect. (Steinitz said, regard all pawn moves with suspicion.) Fritz tends to like the move 16... Qa5 instead.

Althouth 16.... e6 tries to keep a knight out of d5, let's play 16.... Qa5 instead. So, the first thing is: Tal can't continue, as he did in the game, with 17. f4 because black can play .... Bg4 now and close down the h file. Well, what about 17. Nd5 instead? Fritz says 17... Rfe8 is fine for black, you don't need to
worry about 18. b4 so white can go Nc7
because 18. b4 Qa1+ 19. Kd2 Qxb2 and
it is black who is calling the shots.

Nov-12-05  lopium: <aw1988> "to win, sometimes you must demonstrate that two times two is equal to five". Well, try it against the strongest computer in the world and he will teach you how to count! ahahaz!! Kidding. What I mean it's that it can works against humans, but not against today's computer.... :) aw1988!!! Yayay!!
Nov-23-05  Chopin: If chess was a religion, Morphy would be God and Tal the messenger of God!

RookFile: Meanwhile, 16....Qa5 is a good move.
Nov-24-05  vizir: woaw ! great game
Dec-19-05  DeepBlade: <Chopin> <notsodeepthought> Hahaha great stand-up comedian stuff!

Errm, back to the game!
If you have noticed, Tal likes to develop stuff, like the Knights in Sicilian formation, Bishops on e2 and e3, optional Queen to f3 after the pawn push f4. Castle long, and bam!, you have connected Rooks, defending the g and h pawns. Push your kingside pawns to the 7th rank, which are a real burden for Black. Sacrifice (if you still didnt) to erect the mating pattern and voila, people will call you the reincarnation of Tal.

Mar-04-06  Tamerlan: Inoplanetyanin. Last romantic of chess. This was the magical talent, compared in its scale with the gifts Of morfi and Capablanca! Its appearance on the chess horizon in the epoch of the administration of the pillars of position game Botvinnika was semantic similar heaven knows from where to the undertaken hurricane during the clear, cloudless day. Phenomenal memory, unprecedented counting rate, boundless fantasy made possible for him to play against the competent position chess players, armed by the knowledge OF THE XX century, in the style of old masters! Disregarding the kept balance canons, it easily and unconstrainedly took unapproachable fortresses. It acted according to the principle: "if it is cannot, but greatly it wants, then it is possible!" To Tal - it is possible.

Mating Net: Black must have been addicted to the Bishop pair. She spent FIVE tempi with her King's Knight to have it capture the dark squared Bishop that moved only once. The other Knight burned up 3 tempi to capture the light squared Bishop that moved twice. The net result was that White was up 5 tempi after 14 moves. Tal sure made it count, in typical fashion.

MrMelad: The pun is great. After 19 exf5 there seem to be no reason for black not to take the d4 knight with the obvious plan of ..e5 and exchanging queens. But Forbes, defentely aware to the fact that she is playing an ex WC, think hard and decides to go on the safe side and play 19 ..Kh8. But then Tal completely ignores that plan of ..e5 and play 20 Rf1 simply asking her to play the move. So Forbes says to herself "For better or worse" and play the loosing move. I find it funny :)

  chessgames.com: Cathy Forbes informs us:

<Alas, History compels me to query this sacred but, I fear, possibly mythical encounter. A delightful game and what an honour but... I'm mystified! I've certainly never visited Chicago. It's not impossible that the Great Tal favoured me with this masterpiece elsewhere, but sadly neither my memory nor my archives offer any trace. Would be delighted to know the primary source(s). - Cathy Forbes>

Now we will do what we always do under these circumstances--attribute the game to NN.

thegoodanarchist: According to Seirawan and Silman, Tal's opponent was "Forbis" and is referred to as "he" in the notes, indicating a male player.
Feb-19-07  ImmorTAL: Good Day.

When white Sacs Rook, (22. Qxd4), Why doesn’t Black resign???, this is Tal here!!.... Some say that when he does, it’s usually a killer move. Hehe Tal was the most feared of his time, and was ruthless, just look at that picture in his Profile!.. Ruthless with attitude!. Too bad he had poor health. He was GREAT!!

Mar-15-07  zev22407: How would white win if black plays 24)..h6 instead R(f)-e8 , I see just a draw 25)Qxh6 Qxd5 26)Q-g5+
