Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-05-09  fred lennox: Teichmann was a master of sustaining tension. The game begins symmetrical enough until blacks 8th move. This causes two imbalances. One is whites broken queen side pawn formation and the other is after 8...Bxc3 white looses some central control but having the bishop pair well compensates for this. So the battle ensues. White wants to open the center giving more edge to the bishops but he doesn't want the d pawn to attack leaving double isolated pawns. Black doesn't want the center to open unless he can rid of one of white's bishop or some similar compensation like double isolated pawns. Black succeeds in a way so his better queen side pawns end up with a decisive endgame advantage. Typical of Teichmann's incisive strategy.
