tpstar: In the 5. d3 Ruy Lopez, it's tempting for Black to advance d7-d5 in one move vs. d7-d6 then d6-d5 later. In some lines White can win the Pe5 but face a strong counterattack a la Marshall Gambit. Besides 9 ... Bg4, Black scores well with 9 ... Re8 intending 10 ... Bf8. 10. h3 & 11. g4 are aggressive but also weakening without the QN able to reach e3/g3, then Nf5. After 12. g5!? ed was best, then White chose the piece for 3 Pawns line over the Rook for 2 pieces line (13. gxf6 ed 14. fxe7 dxe2 15. exd8=Q exf1=Q+ 16. Kxf1 Raxd8). 22. Nxf4 was forced, otherwise the Queen was trapped, but then Black was 2 Pawns up and won handily.
