TheAlchemist: The practical demonstration that Money isn't everything.
Oct-31-08  Whitehat1963: Dog gone it, <Alchemist>, you beat me to it!

But in the words of the immortal philosopher, Cindy Lauper, "Money changes everything."

Oct-31-08  Whitehat1963: Monday puzzle after 35...Qb7.
Oct-31-08  Whitehat1963: The fundamentals of the economy are strong. Too bad Money was weak.
Dec-23-08  WhiteRook48: What do you call this? A three-cent bishop on g7 for a one-cent pawn?
Jan-07-09  WhiteRook48: after 36...Bxg7 what's the follow-up?
Feb-01-09  WhiteRook48: never mind, I figured it out, 37. f6!!

al wazir: White's rating was 800+ points better than black's. Under the circumstances, any other outcome would have been startling.
May-06-10  melianis: "Greek money"
May-06-10  NewLine: 34... a5 is one of those moves when the player was probably thinking: "<OK, let's just pretend that nothing is happening in the king side la la la la la... <35.e6> everything's fine...Qb7 nothing is happening... <36.Bxg7> ...OUCH!!!>"

  prn: OK. So 36...Bxg7 37. f6 fxg6 Then what?

38. Qxg7+ qxg7 39. fxg7 Kxg7 doesn't seem very impressive.

38. f7+ Kf8 39. fxe8=Q+ Kxf8 leaves White up the exchange, but Black has an extra pawn and the Black pawns look like they should provide a good deal of play.

I'm not saying that I think I'd win against Rozentalis as Black from that position, but I'm not convinced that Money needed to resign when he did.

Is there something obvious that I've missed?

May-06-10  vodkaboris: 40. Bxb5+ destroys the black position. 40...Qxb5 41. Qxg7 with 42. Rf8# (40...Ke7 41. Qxg7#)

  prn: Thanks, vodkaboris. Good point.
May-06-10  desiobu: One line from Crafty:

37. f6 fxe6 38. f7+ Kh8 39. Qh4 h6 40. Rf6

I think black has to give up the queen to avoid mate.

  alexrawlings: <prn> I think your line should read 36.. Bxg7 37 f6 fxe6

And then after 38 f7+ instead of 38.. Kf8 Black could also try 38.. Kh8. How would white have continued?

May-06-10  TheTamale: Eduardas vs. Money? Eddie Money.
May-06-10  newzild: A pretty weak game of the day.

Isn't there a world championship match happening somewhere?

MrMelad: thanks desiobu, it shows the position is helpless for black, very good play with 36.Bxg7 and 35.e5
