Dec-22-09  RandomVisitor: "Old Cole's King"...
Dec-22-09  RandomVisitor: 40.Kf4 or 40.Rc3 might win faster.

28.Ne6 might be better. Also 34.Rb8+ and 35.Ke4.

15.Rxc4! Rxc4 16.Nxb6!

45...Rc8 or 45...Rc7 might hold the draw.

  Honza Cervenka: Old King Cole was a merry old soul
And a merry old soul was he;
He called for his pipe, and he called for his bowl
And he called for his fiddlers three.
Every fiddler he had a fiddle,
And a very fine fiddle had he;
Oh there's none so rare, as can compare
With King Cole and his fiddlers three.
Dec-22-09  lightbishop c5e6: Not really GOTD material in my opinion, just for the sake of a pun... it was a nice pun though.
Dec-22-09  vijaymathslpjz: strong playa
Dec-22-09  Xeroxx: Play me old king cole

  playground player: According to Geoffrey of Monmouth, "Old King Cole" was a real person, King of Colchester, later proclaimed himself King of Britain: made submission to Constantius, father of future Roman Emperor Constantine the Great. In what can only be called an oversight, Geoffrey provides us with no information on King Cole's fiddlers.
Dec-22-09  WhiteRook48: this is not that interesting a game
Dec-22-09  chillowack: In few things is chessgames.com complete deafness to its members' wishes revealed more starkly than in its persistent posting of dull GOTDs simply for the sake of "puns".
Dec-22-09  Jim Bartle: I wonder if R H Newman was a Good Ole Boy who loves LA (!), finds it Lonely at the Top, wants to drop the big one now.
Dec-23-09  kevin86: White will abandon the e-pawn to capture the h-pawn and get his king to g7 as fast as possible.The e-pawn would be an "outside passed pawn".
