Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-27-04  Whitehat1963: Beautifully played by both sides. White looks to be in pretty terrible straits, but what's the finish?

  tpstar: <Whitehat1963> 41. Qa7 is White's only move (41. Qd3? Rc3; 41. Qb3? Nf4+; 41. Qc1? Rc3 42. Nb5/Nb1 Rxc2+! 43. Qxc2 Ne3+), then Black would play 41 ... Rc3 forcing 42. Nb5 (42. Nb1? Rxc2+ & 43 ... Rc1+), then 42 ... Rxc2+ and ugliness on the back rank = 43. Kh1 Bh3 44. Qa1 Bc5! 45. Nd4 (otherwise 45 ... Bg2#) Bxd4 wins; 43. Kg1? Bc5+; 43. Kf1 Bc5 and after 2 checks (44. Qb8+ Kg7 45. Qe5+ Kh6) White cannot prevent 46 ... Ne3 threatening 47 ... Bb4# (46. Ke1 Ne3 47. Nc3 Rxc3! 48. Qxc3 Bb4! 49. Qxb4 Nc2+).

Or else White resigned once Black reached time control! ;>D
