from Seirawan's book Chess Duel..

<Ruben was pondering the position and reached across the table to pick up the white queen for promotion. He held it and twisted it around in his fingers while thinking. It was clear to me that if he promoted his pawn he would lose. On the other hand, if he played the simple defensive retreat S8.Rf2, he would draw. The minutes ticked by and Ruben kept calculating and rubbing the queen.

At dinner that night I told Bent that I had carefully watched what had happened and I had a question for him. "While Ruben was twisting the white queen in his hand, what were the exact thoughts going through your mind?" I asked.

"I was thinking about the touch-move rule," Bent answered. "Could I go to the arbiter and say 'my opponent has touched his queen which is off the board and he must promote his pawn?' I didn't think that the touch-move rule applied.>

Jul-18-18  The Kings Domain: Admirable calculation and nerves by Larsen. Good game.
