May-13-04   Whitehat1963: Interesting game.
May-13-04   poktirity: Anything special that you are thinking of?
May-13-04   Whitehat1963: Unusual opening, for one. And how about 34...Rd6?
May-13-04   poktirity: Looks like quite a crappy move to me. What was the plan?
May-13-04   Whitehat1963: Not sure. Maybe to disconnect the passed pawn and open the lane for the rook. It's almost an even exchange, after all. But I'm with you, I think it's a crappy move. But I'd have liked to have seen the look on the face because it looks like a straight up sacrifice at first glance.

tpstar: Easy, fellas! I like this game, with Black expanding on the Queenside, and White expanding on the Kingside. Note White's plan was more successful, because that's where the Black King lived. After 34. fe White threatens 35. Rxh6+! winning the Queen; 35 ... gxh6 loses to 36. Qg8++, while the Bf8 can't move due to 35. Qxg7++, and on 34 ... Kg8 35. Rxh6 & 36. Qh5 like the game. Therefore, Black had 2 choices = 34 ... Rd6!? giving up the exchange to eliminate the Be3 (which still lost to 36. Rxh6+!), or 34 ... g5?! 35. fg and White wins in a hurry. Black played OK but really could have used the Knight on the Kingside to help defend.
