Karpova: white didn't have the slightest chance!
Apr-15-05   Leviathan: White played a passive opening, leaving the center to black (look at the position after 10. .. Bf5).

The onslaught that follows (played with remarkable skill) punishes black for his excessive shyness.

Karpova: 4.be2 doesn't look very promising

6.nd5:? keeps the pawn structure intact but fastens black's development. since black's position is already better this turns out to be decisive.

9.c3 i don't like that move. i would prefer 9.be3

11.nh4? another loss of time!

16.ng5? we'll never know what was going on in white's mind.

Vera Nebolsina instructively demonstrated how to deal with such opponents.
