Wolfgang01: First; the very very first.

Elisabeth, the rook-trapper!!

May-22-07  dehanne: <Elisabeth, the rook-trapper!!> And Hook-trapper. Ask Sir Walter Raleigh.
May-22-07  Hot Logic: Tatiana is forced to resign when she realises she has forgotten an important point of chess etiquette:

"It is proper to dispose of a rook on the fifth rank by means of an Exchange sacrifice. It is most undignified for such a piece to be disposed of in any other manner."

The game simply could not continue after such a substantial affront to propriety and proper manners.

Gilmoy: Rhamphorhynchus is a genus of pterosaur; search http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pteros....

As a chess opening, Pterodactyl involves K-side fianchetto, c5, and an early Qa5. Ray Keene coined the reptilian name to imply a family resemblance to (Sicilian) Dragon.

From FM Eric Schiller's article http://www.chesscountry.com/article...: <Rhamporhynchus is an early form of pterosaur, with the sharpest teeth and most dangerous tail. I use this for the lines where White captures at c5 [and] Black captures with the Queen.> Hence, 5.. Qxc5 here achieves Rhamphorhynchus. Also, 2.Nf3 5.c3 achieves the <"Western"> bit: <... with Nf3 but not Nc3>.

Feb-28-09  aazqua: Black was completely lost anyway. She's down a pawn and in a vastly inferior position.
