ksadler: I believe this transposes to 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 3. Bc4 d5 which is B40.

Sneaky: I'm not so sure. I don't think it matters if you play 2.Bc4?! or 3.Bc4?!, it's the same nutball variation of the Sicilian, which is probably best called B20. Why do I call it a 'nutball' variation? Well, as White you should make Black strive to play ...d5, not hand it to him on a silver platter. Incidentally, I saw Spassky play a simul about a year ago and he played this same nutball variation =) I wasn't playing, but I was watching a fellow play and make all the same moves I would have made, and he got tore to shreds. So don't listen to me... =)

Ghengis Pawn II: The idea of trading a knight for pawns is touching in the way that its very human.

Halfpricemidge: So why does white sacrifice the bishop on turn number 12 by moving Queen to E2 instead of retreating the bishop.

DanielBryant: I don't know about nutball, but it's definitely a rare variation. Just after my fifth move (as black) in an email game I'm currently playing, this game is the only game in the database that we're still following.

kewmschess: 3...d5 is the kind of move a French Defense player would make, getting an Exchange French-style position with an extra tempo. 3...Nc6 or 3...d6 feels more Sicilian-like, heading in Sozin/Schevenigen directions. But whether you call it a French or a Sicilian, it seems to me all of Black's opening problems are solved by move 6 or so. No bad French bishop, lots of space, life is good for Black.
