  plang: The Bayonet Attack (4..b5 and 5..Na5) is rarely played and lightly regarded but on the plus side there is limited theory on it. 8..Ne7 had only been tried a few times and 9 Bg5 was a new response. It is unclear why Black delayed exchanging on b3 (isn't that the main idea of the variation?); his last chance would have been 13..Nxb3 14 axb..c5 15 Nf3..b4 16 Na4..Bxe4 17 fxg..hxg 18 Qxd6 with just a small edge for White. Instead after 13..c5? 14 Bxf7+! Black was in deep trouble. 16..Qd7 17 Nxg7..Kxg7 18 Be5+..Kg8 19 Bxh8..Kxh8 20 Qh5 would have been winning for White. 31..Qg6 32 Rf2..Bf3 33 Rxf3..Nxf3 34 Qxf3 would not have helped Black.
