Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-01-04  pawntificator: 23. Bxh6 would have made for some interesting play
Mar-01-04  xu fei: What's the follow up if 23...gxh6?
Mar-01-04  Benjamin Lau: Then probably 24. Qxh6 with the idea of 25. Rg3 mate. Black doesn't have to make it that easy though and has several escape routes. I think 24...Nh7! would refute the sacrifice by forcing the queen away and allow reinforcement of the g file, say by ...Rg6.
Mar-01-04  pawntificator: I was thinking more along the lines of 23...gxh6 24 Rg3+ Kh7 24 Nf3 and then who knows what.
Mar-01-04  Bitzovich: If 23.Bxh6 then gxh 24.Qxh6 Ng4
May-18-04  talchess2003: actually, i believe white has attacking chances with 23. Bxh6 gxh6 24. Qxh6 Nh7 25. Rg3+ Rg6 26. Rxf7 Kxf7 (26... Rxf7? 27. Rxg6+) 27. Qxh7+ Ke7 28. Rxg6
May-18-04  talchess2003: but thats only to the response of Nh7, as Bitzovich said, Ng4 Qh4 Rg6 consolidates blacks position and probably wins. still, you guys should look at the Nh7 line its interesting ^^
May-18-04  MoonlitKnight: Well, 24...Ng4+ is check, so it wins right away. 23.Bxh6 gxh6 24.Rg3+ Kh7, then what?
May-18-04  talchess2003: no im saying that the sacrifice wont work due to Ng4+... but if black had moved after 23. Bxh6 gxh6 24. Qxh6 Nh7? then white wins with 25. Rg3+ Rg6 26. Rxf7! Kxf7 27. Qxh7+ Ke8 28. Rxg6

the only reason i pointed it out was the tactic of Rxf7 its otherwise impossible in light of Ng4+

so we may as well get off of the bishop sacrifice

May-18-04  talchess2003: i believe the move 10. h3 also hurt whites attacking prospects, as it blocked off the h-file for the rook i think the best way to deliver the queen to g3 was via the Qe1->f4->Qg3/Qh4 route
