 |
| Oct-10-04 | | fasting: when does this go wrong? is it 7.Ke3?, or before that? |
 |
| Oct-10-04 | | Knezh: 6. Kxf2 is a mistake, better is Kf1. |
 |
| Oct-10-04 | | fasting: that's a short answer. But 6...Nxe4+ surely opens up for the queen as well, and the white doesn't seem to have no where to go. |

 | | Willem Wallekers: 8. Nxh8 is wrong. White has a good chance to survive after 8. g3. |
 |
| Oct-11-04 | | fasting: And I don't think, after looking closer that 6.Kxf2 is wrong if you play 7.Kf1 there after! Besides I agree with señor Wallekers bout the 8.Nxh8 |

 |
| May-19-09 | | ruzon: <Willem Wallekers: 8. Nxh8 is wrong. White has a good chance to survive after 8. g3.> In this database, 8.g3 leads to a perpetual draw after 8... xg3 9.hxg3 d4+ 10. f3 d5 11. h4 e4+ 12. g2 f8 (or O-O) 13. h5 xf7 14. xd5 f2+ =. |

8. Nxh8 is very obtuse, as if material were an objective by itself. |

| Feb-05-12 | | King Death: Aren't most of these lines where White plays 5.Nf7 analyzed out to no more than a draw when White doesn't go crazy grabbing material the way he did here? If I ever played this as White for sure I'd play 5.Bf7+ and 6.Bd5 though, that looks like it should get a small plus. At any rate Black doesn't get the kind of game he wants. |
 |
| Feb-05-12 | | ColeTrane: Bxf7 little better chance . . . . |
 |
| Feb-05-12 | | chegado: C'mon, even I can beat this guy.
Chessgames, we can do better than that. |

 | | FSR: White seems to have had a death wish in this game. How <should> White play? My Game Collection: Drawing lines contains five games with the Wilkes-Barre (scrawl down to C57). <King Death> is correct that 5.Bxf7+! Ke7 6.Bd5! is the only good try for advantage - though even there Black scores almost 62% in the database! See Opening Explorer and Opening Explorer White got a winning advantage in Anand vs Beliavsky, 1991, but lost. Karpov could only draw in the same line: Karpov vs Beliavsky, 1983. Maybe Tarrasch was right when he called 4.Ng5 "a duffer's move"? |

| Feb-05-12 | | goodevans: This game has some amusement value and the pun is wonderfully apt. <chegado>, you are on dangerous ground. Check out the kibitzing to yesterday's GOTD, Tal vs Eversole, 1988. |

| Feb-05-12 | | erniecohen: What happened to the requirement that a game have either historical significance, be from an important tournament, or have at least one highly-rated participant? Each of these players has one game in the database. White walks into a 4-move mate against the Traxler (like that's unusual). Why is this game here? Why is it GOTD? |

 | | King Sacrificer: I like seeing this game as GOTD. After making a little mind exercise with the insane puzzle, it's good to see something funny and relax. |

White has many options, for example Bxf7 Ke7 Bb3 is fine. Nxf7 is not whithout danger, but white has to play Kf1 after Bxf2.
In the normal 4. Ng5 - d5 line there are many lines where white should be okay more or less. for example 8. Qf3?! is a nice try or 9. Nh3 instead of Nf3. Quite balanced with good results for white. |

White should try to avoid exchanging pieces.. White should play d4 before castling and if black plays Bb6 attack the bishop with a4.. |
