Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-01-04   likestofork: Anything in the world wrong with 30....Nxc3? We're not talking about a case of pawn-snatching here.....White's only response is 31. Qf1, and at that point, things look rather black for white.

tpstar: <likestofork> Assuming the given position is correct, 30 ... Nxc3 wins a clear Pawn. But then look at 31 ... Qd6?? which should lose to 32. Nxd6. If Move 30 was really 30. Ncd2, then 30 ... Nxc3 31. Qc4+ Nd5 32. Nxe4 fxe4 33. Rxe4 regains the Pawn. So the Knights are really on d2 and f3, then the position corrects at 36. Ne5 because the other Knight travels from f3 to e5 (and not from c4 to e5). Therefore 30. Ncd2 is correct. Too bad Black lost this game after having the advantage in the middlegame.
