Apr-10-05  Sirthursday: A nice finish to a fascinating game (they always are in the Frankinstein-Dracula)
Jan-04-06  syracrophy: This game's opening was exactly as the game <Ost Hansen-Nunn, Teeside, 1974>

After 33.Kxf1 Qf2++ and its not better 33.Rxf1 Ne2++ with a nice variation of the smothered mate!

Eric Schiller: In my book on the Frankenstein-Dracula Variation I annotated this game. 22...Qh5? was an error, though Black is still winning, and 22...d2!! was cleanest, though it is complicated. There is a spectacular forced mate in the game after 25...Qxh4+! 26.Kg1 Qxf2+!!, which I just discovered while going over the game. 20.Nf3 was the deviation from the Ost Hansen - Nunn game.

This is one of the most fascinating variation in all of chess, and I'm working on an update of the book. Computers can now go much deeper in a reasonable period of time, but the Frank-Drac Variation still has many unexplored corridors!

32...Rf1+!! 33.Rxf1 <33.Kxf1 Qh1#> 33...Ne2#

This position reminds me a position from a book:

Jul-23-10  elohah: 20 Qxb7 Ng3 MATE!

"Oh. Sorry."

Jul-23-10  elohah: 23 gxf3.

Why should I be stumbling around for the mate here? It's outrageous. Am i a weinie now?

Jul-23-10  elohah: 23...Qxh4+ 24 Kg2 Qxf2+ 25 Kh3 Qxf3+
26 Kh2 ...

Where IS it??

Jul-23-10  elohah: 26...d6! 27 Rhg1 (or even 27 Rag1, doesn't matter) 27...Qh5+! (back again) 28 Kg2 Qg4+ 29 Kh2 (29 Kf1? Qe2 mate!) ...Qh4+ 30 Kg2 Qg3+! mates.

But why did that take so long for me to find? It's scandalous. I used to find this type of stuff in a NANO-second!

Jul-23-10  elohah: 24 g3 ? - i suppose is a bad move.
Jul-25-10  elohah: Of course, after 26...d6!, there is also 27 RhF1!

Sigh... I give up...just shoot me.

Jul-25-10  elohah: 27 Rhf1! Qg3+ 28 Kh1 Nd4? 29 Rf8+!! - sort of a twin of what Black pulled in the game...
Jul-25-10  elohah: Schiller? do you have anything here?

Everybody else ignores me.
