Apr-07-03   Rookpawn: This game is a copy of the "Immortal Draw," Hamppe vs Meitner, 1872
May-03-09   WhiteRook48: then why aren't they called "The Immortal Draws"?
Nov-05-09   WhenHarryMetSally: black plays Qxa4+???? Why does he play that?

Phony Benoni: <WhenHarryMetSally> First of all, this game was obviously a pre-arranged draw. As noted, it's an exact copy of Hamppe vs Meitner, 1872. The players had decided to draw by replaying that game, thinking it would be fun, but it was a stupid thing to do. If you're going to draw, fine. Being this blatant about it is just looking for trouble, and I find that people who look for trouble generally find it.

As for 9...Qxa4+, it was simply the best way to continue the attack and almost worked. See the kibitzing of the other game for the details.
