  FSR: Esserman in his book <Mayhem in the Morra!> (p. 45) recommends 13.Be3! Bxb2 14.Rb1 (large advantage White, according to Esserman) Bg7 (after 14...Bf6 he gives 15.Rb3! without analysis) 15.Bc5 Re8 16.Bd6 Qa7 17.Ng5 (forced win for White) h6 18.Nxf7! Kxf7 19.Qh5+ Kg8 20.Qxe8+ Kh7 21.Bd3#.
Aug-10-19  7he5haman: Does 35.gxf5 fare any better?

I cringed at 35.Bxd5.

Aug-10-19  OldGeez76: A very instructive ending.

Breunor: Computer doesn't really agree with Esserman at least running for 1 minute:

1) +0.73 (22 ply) 13.a4 d5 14.Be3 Qd6 15.Rc1 Rd8 16.Bb6 Bxb2 17.Rb1 Bg7 18.Bxd8 Qxd8 19.Re1 Qd6 20.Bd3 Qf4 21.Bc2 Nd4 22.Nxd4 Bxd4 23.Kh1 h6 24.Qd3 f5 25.f3 e5

2) +0.60 (21 ply) 13.Be3 d5 14.a4 Qd6 15.Rc1 Qd8 16.b4 Nxb4 17.Bc5 Nc6 18.Bxf8 Qxf8 19.Qc2 Qd6 20.Rfe1 Bd7 21.g3 h6 22.Qc5 Qxc5 23.Rxc5 Nd4 24.Kg2 Nxb5 25.axb5

Big difference is that the computer doesn't play 13.. Bxb2 but plays d5 instead!

After 13 Bxb2, it still doesn't play Rb1:

1) +0.84 (24 ply) 14.Bxc6 dxc6 15.Bc5 Bf6 16.Bxf8 Kxf8 17.Qd2 Kg7 18.Rae1 h6 19.Re3 Qf4 20.Qc2 e5 21.Rfe1 Qf5 22.Qe2 e4 23.Rxe4 Be6 24.Qe3 Bd5 25.Re8 Rxe8 26.Qxe8 Bxa2

(One minute run)

7heShaman, computer agrees with you, gxf5 is 0.3 better than Bxd5:

1) =0.00 (30 ply) 35.gxf5 Nc3 36.Rd2 Nb1 37.Rd1 Nc3

2) -0.30 (29 ply) 35.Bxd5 Rxd5 36.b4 Bf4 37.Kf2 Bg5 38.h4 Bxh4+ 39.Ke3 exf3 40.gxf5 f2 41.Ke4 Rd8 42.Kf3 Kg7 43.Bxf2 Bxf2 44.Kxf2 h5 45.b5 h4 46.a5 Kf6 47.a6 bxa6 48.bxa6 Kxf5 49.a7 Ke4
