Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-08-03  stinkymagoo: I don't think that 4. Ba4 was the best way to respond to 3...a6. I would go for 4. Bxc6 to force black into a takeback decision.
Nov-09-03  zelmael: the continuation 6. Nd4 looks unclear... black is getting off the hook...
Nov-09-03  talmax: One word sums up this sorry mess - "D'Oh!" :-/
Feb-17-04  Phoenix: A Homer Simpson indeed!
Mar-02-04  Egghead: This is essentially the Noah's Ark trap from the Ruy Lopez (1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bb5 a6 4 Ba4 Nf6 5 0-0 d6 6 d4 b5 7 Bb3 Nxd4 8 Nxd4 exd4 9 Qxd4 c5), only Black loses even more "efficiently" here. :)
Mar-03-04  TrueFiendish: 4.Bxc6 must be played; in fact, it's the whole idea...
Jul-29-09  WhiteRook48: that just failed!!

tpstar: Presumably White was new to chess and just learned the Ruy Lopez, without recognizing the tactical drawback of 4. Ba4?? b5 5. Bb3 c4 trapping the Bishop and Black wins a piece. Note this is White's one and only database game.

Legend says the Noah's Ark Trap got its name for being so old. :P

perfidious: Perhaps White believed his opponent's first move was 1....5755 instead of 3735, until a rude awakening came in the form of 5....3534.

Killtown.

Mar-21-20  sea7kenp: Don't mix the Sicilian with the Ruy Lopez!
