plang: The main line is 9..cxd; 9..a6 was a new move that has not been repeated. Bologan thought that 10 dxc would have been a better way to try for an advantage. 12..Bxg5 13 Nxg5..Qxg5 14 Ne4!..Qf4 15 Bxg4..Bxg4 16 Nf6+..Kf8 17 Nxg4 would have been strong for White. With either 18 Rcc1 or 19 Rccq White would have had reasonable play for the pawn; instead after 20..Nb4 Black was clearly better. White chose the best chance giving up the exchange with 21 Ne4 as the alternative 21 Rcc1..Bxf2+ 22 Kf1..Be3 23 Rc3..Nxh2+ would have been much worse. After 25..h6? Black's winning chances were diminished; better would have been 25..f6 26 Bf4..Nh6 27 Nf6+..gxf 28 Bxh6..Kf7. Still in mutual time trouble Black continued to press but, in a time scramble not realizing that the time control had been reached, Black rushed with 41..Na3? throwing away his last chance to win with 41..Nd4 42 Kh2..c2 43 Kh3..f5.
