OBIT: This is pretty deep for an opening trap. After the seemingly natural 6. d4?, Black finds the forcing 6...Qh4+! 7. g3 (7. Ng3 drops the d-pawn) Qe4 8. Rg1 Nxd4!, winning material.

For White's 9th move, 9. Nc3? Nxc2+ is crushing: 10. Kd2 Qd3mate or 10. Kf2 Nd3+. If White tries 9. Bg2, then 9...Nc2+ 10. Kf1 Ne3+ 11. Bxe3 Qxe3 leaves Black two pawns up. That leaves 9. Qxd4, as played in the game, but 9...Qxc2! wins, there being no reasonable defense to ...Nd3+. One line worth pointing out is 9...Qxc2+ 10. Bh3 (10. Bg2? Nd3+ 11. Kf1 Qd1mate) Nd3+ 11. Kf1 Qd1+ 12. Kg2 Qxe2+ 13. Kh1 Nf2+ 14. Kg2 Ng4+ and mates.

  GrahamClayton: Is 7.♘g3 any better?
Sep-17-12  mworld: this looks like one of my early losses to the computer.
Dec-01-17  schnarre: ...6. d4 was a mistake. I think 6. g3, intending Bg2 & 0-0 would have stood better. I'm unsure about 6. Bf4. Any thoughts?

May-01-23  edubueno: As far as I know, 6 Bf4 is the correct mouvement.
