Landman: As in, Black queens first? Yes, that's correct.
Oct-05-05  GreenCastle: Black's game almost looked too easy - 5.f4 ensures White cannot maintain the base of his pawn chain on d4 - and it just went downhill from there.
Oct-05-05  thathwamasi: That was a beautiful game and a sound exchange sacrifice..

PaulLovric: <teme> this is way beyond a joke
Oct-05-05  rya: f4 and Re3 look crappy to me. But what do I know?
Oct-05-05  Norman Glaides: What a load of old rubbish, what's this doing as Game of the Day?
Oct-05-05  iron maiden: LOL, excellent. "Run To The Hills" is probably my favorite Maiden song of all time; thanks guys.
Oct-05-05  lopium: Ahahazz yes. paullovric.

Bobwhoosta: I think the move 5.f4 by white is a mistake, but difficult to play against from the black side. Black seemed to have the easy win, but only because he played very well. White played good defense from move 15 or so, but was unable to generate play. He was slowly beaten down, as can happen in the french. Rubbish?

jahhaj: <Bobwhoosta, rya> 5.f4 is the main line in this position. White secures his centre at the cost of some lag in development. Alternatives like 5.Nf3 are less challenging because Black can dismantle the White centre with f6.

The intent of 7.Be3 is to keep control of the important d4 square, again a standard move in this position.

It's the 14.Bb5 15.Bxc6 maneuver that looks like the cause of White's troubles to me.

Oct-05-05  THE pawn: <iron maiden> run to the hills is not my favorite song, but it's surely a good one when playing chess!
Oct-05-05  iron maiden: I've found it well-suited to blitz, myself.
Oct-05-05  Rowson: where's <iron maiden>??? RUN TO THE HILLS!! is an iron maiden song... ROCK ON CHESS GEEKS!!!

kevin86: The O'Henry ending for me was that the d-pawn queened instead of the b-pawn. Black gave up the exchange for a pawn, but his game was clearly better-especially when he got two pawns to "scoring position". Does Mr. Hills invite his brothers over to make a pot of coffee? lol.
Oct-05-05  EmperorAtahualpa: Nice game! Mate in three to follow I believe: 41.g3 Rxa3+ 42.h4 Qxh2+ 43.Rg3#
Oct-05-05  bishopawn: already at move 9 black's d pawn can run for touchdown!

kevin86: <EmperorAtahulpa>You must be mistaken, you have white mating?

I think you mean: 41 Kg3 Rxa3+ 42 Kh4 Qxh2+ 43 Kg5 Rg3# or 41 Kf3 Rxa3+ 42 Re3 Rxe3#

Oct-06-05  EmperorAtahualpa: <kevin86> oops LOL I don't know what I was thinking. Anyway my line was correct at least.
