Oct-19-02		Honza Cervenka: 13...Kf7 is typical for Steinitz's style. He often used king in the opening or in the middle-game as an active piece. Here he could not play 13...0-0 as after 14.cxd5 cxd5 15.Nc3 his pawn d5 is lost. But De Vere refuted Steinitz's conception of this game in great style. His move 18.Nxf6 is stunning blow. Nevertheless 18.Nc7 b5 (what else?) 19.Ne8+ Qxe8 20.Bh6+ Kxh6 21.Qh4+ Kg7 22.Rxe8 was winning too thanks to Steinitz's move 17...Bf8. After better 17...Bd6 De Vere would have also big advantage playing for example simple 18.Bf4.

Dec-15-08		popski: Interesting that was 8.d4!? played only once according to Opening Explorer. Is this move somehow refuted or just isn't contemporary enough?
