Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-02-02   bishop: Black botched the opening and never did complete his development, the defence of his d-pawn was a big headache. A well played game by White.

Position after 10 Qd1-a4+! Ke8-e7

Hard to believe that a player of near IM-stregth (2350) could have such a horrible position after only 10 moves.

Yes, White tied Black down to the defense of the weak Black d6-pawn until it was time to mate the Black king on the <WEAK DARK SQUARES> with the maneuver Qb4-Qd2-Qh6-Qg7#.

A game that was dominated by two positional/strategic themes: <WEAK PAWNS> (Black d6-pawn) and <WEAK COLOR COMPLEX> (f6-g7-h6 dark squares).

A beautiful example of <SIMPLE CHESS> that would make Micheal Stean proud.
