Jul-03-03  CaligulaXXX: mikdir.... i agree!
Jul-03-03  BigRobDady: I think 63. KG4
Jul-03-03  mkdir: white's winning for sure.....
Jul-03-03  BigRobDady: In the shoot outs with fritz so far wite has one 90% of the time
Jul-03-03  CaligulaXXX: its done...
Jul-03-03  popski: if black get draw is lucky ...
Jul-03-03  mkdir: if black elimates the a pawn which is very likely and then he can sacrifice his knight! for white b pawn and can still draw if he can get is king into h8 square
Jul-03-03  Brecht: no i think its draw, only the long time of playing can change the end result
Jul-03-03  CaligulaXXX: how does black stop the h pawn?
Jul-03-03  BigRobDady: If you take the night for a pawn black could call time.
Jul-03-03  Brecht: sorry posting at a wrong point of time, now the second part of prognose becomes real ;-)
Jul-03-03  mkdir: black cannot stop the h pawn..if black is able to pull this one out then i would be a miracle
Jul-03-03  mkdir: just goes to show the advantage of bishop over knight
Jul-03-03  mkdir: yeah CaligulaXXX which was the case today...
Jul-03-03  Dustin J.: In some suitations it'd be better to have the knight. In almost all my endgame games the knight proved better than bishop. Though usually it's because I win in the middle and smash into the endgame. So if it lasts the knight is better because it's damn complicated. Very good game yet I had to leave and blacks position was far more favorable then.
Jul-03-03  Shadout Mapes: Wow, one day in the database and this is the 3rd most kibitzinged page after the Cafe and Fischer's pages.
Jul-03-03  Echesvenning: I am no endgame expert but this is a great example on how to use the King's triangulation tactics and then the bishop to take that one extra move against the Knight in order to maximize the position forcing black into zugzwang. Compare the position after Whites 52nd move to Whites 67th. This was a very instructional game.
Jul-03-03  drukenknight: well lots of analysis and no one has spotted the losing move. I dont think it's too hard to see what happened.

Before that I liked 49 Bf4! giving check in the only way for white to get back in the ball game since he is behind in material and has been since that R for B sack.

I would have thought 42...f3+ 43 gxf3 exf3+ 44 Kxf3 Ne5+ better for black since it brings the K further away from the a pawn. BUt whatever it probably doesnt matter.

45 BxR+ also seemed more prudent and headed toward a draw.

it looked like Stellwagen was playing for a win after drawing w/ a strong gm (van woely) was it a case of just getting overconfident and playing for a win.

Jul-28-03  PVS: Can anyone explain to me how this contest came to be the most kabitzed about game in the database?

refutor: <how this became the most kibitzed upon game>

it was shown live, so people kibitzed live

Jul-28-03  ksadler: Speaking of live games, I asked this on the Kibitzer's Cafe and wasn't answered so I'll ask again: is there more plans for live games on this site or was that just a one tournament thing?

  chessgames.com: ksadler and others:

Our coverage of the Dutch Tournament was merely a test for more important tournaments to come. It was a great success, and a lot of fun for everybody involved.

When Kasparov plays Ponomariov in September, we will definitely be broadcasting the games live.

Jul-28-03  Sylvester: So the World Championship matches are really on again? Both of them or just one?
Jul-28-03  PVS: The on again off again matches are on for the nonce, but don't hold your breath.
Feb-02-04  sleepkid: ...I had no idea the Dutch Championships took place in Moscow. How interesting. . .
