Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-31-03  numlock31: What is this madness? Why doesnt Karpov resign earlier.

Was what Anand did actually hard. Seems like ang GM could have come up with moves to force his hand in a Q vs R,P ending. Maybe Anand was short on time?

Oct-31-03  panigma: Personally, I think it's pretty damn good play by Anand...I would have been so frustrated that I'd probably have ended up with a draw...
Oct-31-03  aulero: According to the fatal error was 58.♖b1. Karpov should have played 58.♖f8 to save the game.
Oct-31-03  tud: I will sign a letter asking Karpov to erase 2003 from his palmares. After winning against Kasparov in New York last year, his play is a tragedy. Signed : ex-Karpov fun
Nov-03-03  Andy White: numlock31: both players would have been short on time as this game was played in a Rapid Chess tournament, hence the extended endgame.

Presumably Karpov saw an opportunity to win on time by delaying the mate

Nov-03-04  alexandrovm: this is an amazing game! It seems that the game could have ended in a draw, but Karpov blundered
Mar-29-05  enigmaticcam: I've noticed in a few of Anand's Queen's Indian games, on 5. Qb3, Anand plays Nc6. I don't quite understand that move. I thought you weren't supposed to move that knight and block the c-pawn so it can be used to counter the center.
Aug-08-08  thathwamasi: Will this officially qualify as a Zugzwang?
