| Dec-05-04 | | who: I need help. I have no idea what is going on. |
Dec-05-04
 | | suenteus po 147: Would you care to elaborate as to the kind of help you need, and for what? |
| Dec-05-04 | | who: To be honest I just wanted to be the first to post. Actually, it all makes sense - the moves are pretty much forced. |
Dec-05-04
 | | Sneaky: Here's my improvement for Black: 26.Qf4. Crafty? |
| Dec-05-04 | | ajit: <sneaky>even after 26.Qf4 mate is forced.for instance 26... b4 27. d3 (forced)27.. a5!and mate next move |
Dec-05-04
 | | Sneaky: Not quite mate next move: 26.Qf4 Nb4 27.Bd3 Qa5 and Black has a3 as a defense? It looks flimsy but maybe it's good enough? |
| Dec-05-04 | | maxundmoritz: 26..d4 seems to be the best response for both 26.Qf4 and 26.Qg4. It keeps the queen out of play. |
Dec-05-04
 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: What about 26.Qf4 Qb6? |
| Dec-05-04 | | be3292: What would have been black's response to 26. a3? <anybody?> |
Dec-05-04
 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: Oh, never mind...white plays 27.Ba3. |
| Dec-05-04 | | Alkaff: <Gregor Samsa Mendel> I think 27. Ba3 is enough. |
Dec-05-04
 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: <be3292> But I think after 26.a3, Qb6 would actually work. |
| Dec-05-04 | | chesslearning: <be3292> 26. a3 Qb6 then mate next move, I think. |
| Dec-05-04 | | Alkaff: <Sneaky> what about 26... d4 as a reply to 26 Qf4 ? |
| Dec-05-04 | | adamko: 26...d4 seems to be the best after 26.Qf4 |
| Dec-05-04 | | adamko: mate in 9 |
Dec-05-04
 | | crafty: 26. f4 d4 27. e4 b4 28. a3 xa3 29. b1 b2 (eval -3.22; depth 11 ply; 1500M nodes) |
| Dec-05-04 | | greystar69: After white's 10th move he is so far ahead in development black seems almost overwhelmed when he begins his counter-attack with b5. White can easily afford the luxury of Kb1 with so much time. Note that black cannot play 14... Qxd4 as this would be met by Bg6! leading to the capture of the rook on a8.
And you have to respect the move 18... Bg7 (instead of the perhaps more instinctive Na3+ to cash in on white weak dark squares). Black makes way to castle and offers a knight sacrifice to open up the b-file, chase white's light square bishop away and put pressure down that long diagonal. Blacks final moves each add a new mating threat until white is left with too many balls to juggle. Beautiful. |

Dec-05-04
 | | Calli: Crafty's 26.Qf4 d4 27.Qe4 Qb4 28.Ba3 Qxa3 29.Rb1 Rb2 is best since after 30.Bc4 (forced) Nb4 will be mate after a few spite checks. |
| Dec-05-04 | | Alkaff: Ok guys since I am the first one here who suggested 26... d4 I suggest here 27 Bc4 as reply instead of 27.Qe4 so if 27 Qb4 Bb3 or 27 Qxc4 Ba3 and I think white is saved |
| Dec-05-04 | | MyCatPlaysChess: Was there a better defensive try for white on move 22 instead of 22. Nb1? |
Dec-05-04
 | | karnak64: I'm not sure I have this right, but I understand that Botvinnik once said: "If Tal offers a sacrifice, accept it. If I offer a sacrifice, consider it. If Petrosian offers a sacrifice, resign." The point being that Petrosian, solid defensive player that he was, never sacrificed speculatively; he had everything calculated to the end. |
| Dec-05-04 | | jsemmens: would:
26. Qf4 d4
27. Ba3 Qxa3
28. Rb1
work? |
| Dec-05-04 | | SnoopDogg: Oh man! The move that really impressed me was 18. Bg7! and Qc4!. I saw Rxb1! but not Qc4. Wow Petrosian is great. |
| Dec-05-04 | | maxundmoritz: <Alkaff> 27 Bc4 is answered by 27.. Qxc4 and Black wins. Also, I've suggested 26.. d4 as an answer earlier for both 26 Qf4 and 26 Qg4. |
