LIFE Master AJ: A solid effort by "Big Al." (I am currently studying this variation at the moment ... and comparing the types of games that arise as in comparison to 7.g4!?)

  plang: In Fedorowicz-Tsl San Francisco 1991 Black played 13..Rd8 and after 14 h3 a draw was agreed; 13..Ng6 was new. After the game Beliavsky considered 14 f3 to be more precise than his 14 g3?!. Both players missed 14..Qe5! which would have given Black a small edge after 19 Nxc6..Bg4+ 20 Kg2..bxc 21 Rxd8+..Rxd8 22 Bxc5..Qxc5 23 Be2..Qh5 24 Rd1..Re8 25 Re1. Black started to get in trouble with 23..b5?; better was 23..Qd6 24 Ne2..Qh6 25 h3..Ne3+ 26 Bxe3..Qxe3 27 Ng1..Rd8 28 Nf3 with some advantage to White. After 24..c5? Black was close to losing; better was 24..Ne5. 32..Rd8 33 Qxf6..Rd1 34 Qe7..Qxb2 35 Nh5..h6 36 Qe8+..Kh7 37 Qxf7+..Kh8 38 Nf6 would also have been winning for White.
