  estrick: Not too tricky for this Hallows' Eve. Just the ole Queen sac Monday.

  An Englishman: Happy All Hallows Eve: What? It's Monday, and thy Queen remains upon the chessboard? Time for some Jacobean theatrics, wouldn't you say?

  dzechiel: White to move (30?). White is up a pawn. "Very Easy."

The experienced player will immediately see...

30 Qxh6+ Kxh6

On 30...Kg8 31 Qh8# is mate.

31 Rh3#

After all, it is a Monday.

Oct-31-11  jackalope: Who's your Dadi?

Certainly a Monday puzzle and not much visualization needed, especially for this Patzer. Black has only a thin black line protecting his king from White's queen and both rooks - even White's bishop has a role by denying the Black king a temporary respite on g7.

<30. Qxh6 KxQh6 31. Rh3#>

<30. Qxh6 Kg8 31. Rxg6+ (forks Black's queen) QxRg6 32. QxQg6+ Rg7 33. QxRg7#>

Now to find out how Black got into such a ghoulish position...

Oct-31-11  jackalope: Oops - missed <31. Qh8#>. :-) Like I said, I'm still a Patzer.
Oct-31-11  ruzon: Is it my imagination, or did Black miss 19...Nec3 winning the Exchange?

  sevenseaman: Today once more I was about to make the same mistake I made about 2 weeks ago.

I was surfing the 'Recent Kibitzing' and I almost opened this 'Prince Dadian' game. Knowing the 'Prince' puts out some interesting stuff quite often, I refrained, telling myself ' I would see him after I've submitted my POTD solution.

And here I am, with him. I wasn't going to miss much, was I? This usual Monday menu - these 'de rigueur' Q sacs have begun to tire; expected and far too blase.

I may need to concede though these could still charm a newbie in.

But I'd say a bare minimum complication like this is a must.

Oct-31-11  jackalope: Black stuck a fork in his eye with <29. ... g6> - he had to be thinking, "Hey - I can fork his rook and queen with a pawn!" Been there - done that - burned the t-shirt...

I didn't really analysed all the variations because it was a 10 min game and I had only 4-5 minutes left by this time (but just quick glance at the board was necessary to tell that he would be in big trouble if he takes the poisoned knight)

I really needed to share this with you guys, hope you understand

Perceptive! Some sharp work there <ruzon>.

Oct-31-11  jackalope: Nice puzzle <sevenseaman>! Took me a while to see the solution. <1. Qg8+ Kxg8 2. Nh6#>.

Consistent with the Monday queen sac theme. Thanks!

I can't refute it. Good catch.

  Sneaky: <dzechiel: <ruzon: Is it my imagination, or did Black miss 19...Nec3 winning the Exchange?> I can't refute it. Good catch.> The refutation lies in the fact that had Brjecky won the game, Prince Dadian would arrange to have him exiled. (You don't really believe that one man was responsible for all these insane brilliancies, do you? ;-)

Good play in a 10 minute game. <10. Nb5> is of course a coup, your timing at <21. axb5 axb5 22. Nxb5 et al> is spot on. The game belongs to you hereon.

Was the <poisoned N> any time <takeable>? Your diagram too does not seem to belong to your story.

  M.Hassan: "Very Easy" White to play 30.?
White is a pawn up
If one spots Queen sac on h6, one has solved the puzzle:

30.Qxh6+ Kxh6
31.Rh3#
